Ayla Maldonado made her collegiate debut during the 2007 spring season with the Lady Raptors’ outdoor track team. She competed in the long jump and the triple jump while participating in six invitationals. Her top long jump of 15-11.50 came at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet (May 14, 2007), while her best triple jump was a 31-00.50 jump at the Danny Curran Invitational (March 31). She finished ninth in the long jump and 10th in the triple jump at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships (May 5) with jumps of 15-06.25 and 30-09.75, respectively.
During the 2007 fall season, Maldonado ran on the Lady Raptors’ cross country team, where she competed in five of the six invitationals for Rutgers-Camden. Maldonado’s top 5K time was 26:05.76 at the Cabrini Invitational (Oct. 13), earning her a fourth-place finish on the team. She posted her top 6K time of 30:12.2 at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals Nov. 10. Her top finish on the Raptors came at the season-opening Lebanon Valley College Invitational, when she finished second on the team in a time of 28:56.02 for 5,100 meters.
Maldonado collected a third varsity letter as a member of the 2007-08 women’s indoor track team, where she earned All-NJAC Honorable Mention as a member of the Lady Raptors’ distance medley team. She ran the second leg on the team which finished third at the NJAC Indoor Track and Field Championship on Feb. 25, posting a program-record 14:44.49 clocking.
Maldonado also competedin the 200- and 400-meter dashes and the long jump during the indoor season, where she set a program record for 400 meters (1:03.21) at the NYU FastTrack Invitational Feb. 29. Her top 200-meter dash was 29.38 at the Frank Colden Invitational Feb. 2, while her top long jump came at the Collegeville Classic Jan. 18.
Maldonado was a member of the Williamstown High School outdoor track team for four years. She also was a varsity cheerleader for four years and served as captain for both Williamstown teams. She earned MVP honors for both programs and was a medalist at the Tri-County Conference Track and Field Championships, finishing second in the long jump and earning the pole vault championship. She also set the Williamstown girls’ track pole vault record, was an Honor Roll and National Honor Society student and graduated in the top 15 percent of her class.
Maldonado’s hobbies include art and photography.
A Nursing major at Rutgers-Camden, Ayla is the daughter of Tina and James Maldonado of Williamstown.
