Former Rutgers-Camden golf standout and captain Brian Mason returns for his fourth semester as an assistant coach for Bob Cardea’s Scarlet Raptors. He joined Cardea’s staff as the assistant coach during the 2006 fall semester after serving as a volunteer assistant during the 2006 spring campaign.

Mason’s last semester with the golf team came in the fall of 2005, when he posted a 79.7 average in six invitationals to finish a close second on the team to Matt Tomasic’s 79.0 average. During that season he was the Raptors’ medalist in three invitationals. He capped his career in style, earning individual medalist honors with a 79 at the season-ending Scarlet Raptors Fall Invitational Oct. 2. He added team MVP honors at the Rutgers-Camden 2006 spring athletic banquet.

During the 2005 spring golf season Mason averaged 82.5 while being one of only three Raptors to compete in all eight invitationals. His top outing came at the Lebanon Valley College Invitational (April 4), when he was the Raptors’ medalist with a 79, only three strokes off the individual medalist from Lycoming. Mason also shot rounds of 80 at the Wesley College Invitational (April 14) and at the Richard Stockton Tri-Match (April 22), finishing second on the Raptors in each outing. That semester capped a fine 2004-05 school year for Mason, who earned the Barry M. Millett Award as the Scarlet Raptors’ Most Dedicated Player.

That season came on the heels of a fine 2004 fall campaign in which he averaged 80.0 in five outings, including a pair of 78 rounds at the Franklin and Marshall College Invitational (Sept. 13) and at the East Stroudsburg University Fall Invitational (Oct. 15). He also shot a 79 at the Wesley College Invitational (Sept. 9) to finish in a three-way tie for the team lead.

A Bridgeton High School graduate who transferred to Rutgers-Camden from Camden County College, Mason’s first semester with the Raptors came during the 2003-04 school year, when he competed in two fall invitationals, averaging 95.0. He played in six invitationals the next spring, averaging 82.8 and shooting his top round of 77 at the season-ending Rutgers-Camden Spring Golf Invitational (April 23).

In 27 career outings over five semesters with the Scarlet Raptors, Mason averaged 82.4.

A 2006 Rutgers-Camden graduate with a degree in Finance, Mason works as a Senior Pension Administrator at EDS in Cherry Hill.
