A former three-sport scholastic standout and volleyball coach in her native Michigan, Angie Smith joins the Rutgers-Camden coaching staff for the 2007 season.

Smith was a four-year volleyball player at Comstock Park High School, where she served as team captain in 1999 and 2000, while earning All-OK Silver Conference First Team honors both seasons. She also played for the Team Center AAU squad in 1999. She played four years of basketball, earning All-OK Silver Honorable Mention in 2000, and was a standout track athlete at Comstock Park High School. She earned all-conference track honors in 1998, 1999 and 2000, and was a state qualifier in both the 400-meter relay and the 200-meter dash in 1999 and 2000.

Following her scholastic playing days, Smith started her volleyball coaching career in the town’s public school system while she was attending Grand Valley State University (Allendale, Michigan). She played intramural volleyball at Grand Valley State and graduated in 2004 with her Bachelor of Arts and Science in Public and Nonprofit Administration.

Smith coached middle school volleyball in Comstock Park from 2002-2004, working with the seventh- and eight-grade girls’ teams. She served as the coach for the Team Angle Volleyball Club from April to June, 2004, leading her team to a second-place finish in the 14-year-old age bracket of the AAU state tournament.

During the fall of 2004, Smith became the freshman girls’ volleyball coach at Comstock Park High School, where she served until moving to New Jersey in 2005.
