Rutgers-Camden Ends Record Breaking Season
Mahwah, NJ (November 3, 2009)-In their first appearance in the NJAC playoffs, the #6 seed Rutgers-Camden was defeated by the #3 seeded Ramapo College. It was the second time in a week these two teams played each other. The Scarlet Raptors end their best season in programs 10 year history with 11-14 overall, and 3-5 in the conference record. The Roadrunners advance to the NJAC semi-finals to face #2 seeded Richard Stockton College on Thursday evening in Pomona, NJ.
In three sets, the home team won by the scores 25-16, 25-7, and 25-9. Ramapo was led by senior Kaitlin Smith (Westwood, NJ) and sophomore Kayla Anders (Harrington Park, NJ) with 8 and 7 kills respectively. Elizabeth Steck (Marlton, NJ) led the defense with 13 digs.
Rutgers-Camden’s sophomore outside hitter Katherine Crosby (Marlton, NJ / Cherokee) collected team high 5 kills and 4 digs, while freshmen setter Catherine Tajeda (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill East) tallied 13 assists in the defeat.
Rutgers-Camden closed its season with team records for wins (11); NJAC wins (3), kills (846), and assists (786). Prior to this year, the Raptors’ best record was 8-14 from the 2008 season, while Rutgers-Camden had never won more than one NJAC match in a season.
