Angelosante earns NJAC Rookie of Week
CAMDEN, N.J. (October 24, 2011) – It was quite a week for freshman forward Katie Angelosante (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) and the Rutgers University-Camden women’s soccer team.
Angelosante, who scored a goal in both games while helping the Scarlet Raptors post their first two victories of the season last week, was named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week today.
Angelosante becomes the first Lady Raptor to earn weekly conference honors since Heather Thom was named the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 19, 2009.

A defender in high school, Angelosante has played up top for the Scarlet Raptors during her first season of collegiate soccer. She scored her first career goal in a 3-1 loss at Richard Stockton College Oct. 12 before collecting a pair of goals last week.
Angelosante scored the Raptors’ first goal Oct. 19 at Rutgers-Newark, sparking her team to a 3-0 lead in an eventual 3-2 victory. The win was the first of the year for the Raptors and snapped a two-year, 17-game winless streak (0-15-2).
Three days later, in a 2-0 road win at Ramapo College, Angelosante again tallied the first goal. It proved to be the first game-winning tally of her career.
The double victories give Rutgers-Camden a shot to reach the NJAC playoffs for the first time since 2007. Rutgers-Camden, 2-10-2 overall and 2-4-1 in the NJAC, is currently sitting in the sixth and final playoff spot in the conference race. The team travels to New Jersey City University for its final regular-season game on Wednesday afternoon, needing at least a tie to hold off William Paterson University for the final playoff berth. The only other factor would be if Ramapo wins its last two games against Rowan (tonight) and Montclair State (Wednesday). If that happens, the Raptors would have to beat NJCU to reach the NJAC playoffs.
Angelosante, who has scored a goal in three of her last four games, leads the team in scoring with three goals for six points.
A Marketing major and a member of the Rutgers-Camden Honors College, Katie is the daughter of Kathy and Tony Angelosante of Bridgewater.
