Raptors finish third at Osprey Open

GALLOWAY, NJ (Sept. 24, 2011) – The Rutgers University-Camden men’s cross country team returned to action here Saturday, finishing third out of seven teams in the Osprey Open.

The Scarlet Raptors, who hadn't run since their opener Sept. 10, posted 88 points in the 6K meet, which was held at Richard Stockton College. The College of New Jersey won the meet with 26 points, followed by host Richard Stockton with 58.

Rutgers-Camden junior Alec Connelly (Cherry Hill, NJ/Paul VI) was the Raptors’ top runner, finishing fifth out of 82 runners in a time of 19:37.83. Senior Jason Kendall (West Collingswood Heights, NJ/Haddon Township) finished 25th overall (20:38.98), while senior Adam Biner (Fanwood, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) finished 34th (20:56.54).

The Raptors’ fourth runner was freshman Ryan Bobb (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), who finished 40th overall (21:14.63). Senior Scott McCarthy (Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) finished 41st overall (21:23.46) and fifth on the Raptors. He was followed by junior Chris Kelly (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township), who was 43rd overall (21:30.82) and freshman Andrew Berger (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), who was 50th (21:53.80).

In addition to their top seven, the Raptors’ squad also included sophomore Joe Meehan (Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Regional), who was 51st (21:58.46), freshman Ryan Cesaretti (Riverton, NJ/Palmyra), who finished 63rd (23:09.77), junior Johnathan Doughten (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford), who was 72nd (25:33.00) and sophomore Todd Grover (Burlington, NJ/Burlington Township), who finished 77th (27:28.77).

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Friday when it competes in the Paul Short Run at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Penn. The race begins at 10 a.m.
