Steph Skroski had an impressive freshman season for the Lady Raptors, hitting .321 with six home runs, 27 RBIs and 24 runs scored as the team’s third baseman. She tied for the New Jersey Athletic Conference lead with 13 doubles and finished among the conference leaders in sacrifice flies (2, tied for second), home runs (tied for sixth), at bats (137, ninth), plate appearances (152, 10th) and RBIs (tied for 12th).
Skroski started all of her 45 games last season, making her collegiate debut against Frostburg State University March 2 at the Atlantic vs. East Challenge in Virginia. She went 1-for-4 to collect her first collegiate hit.
After a slow start, batting .158 in her first six games, Skroski hit her stride in a big way, exploding with a 3-for-4 game against Central College March 10 in which she had a double, her first collegiate home run, three runs scored and four RBIs. She also went 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs against Norwich University (March 13, Game 2), notching another double and home run.
Skroski followed the Norwich game with one of the biggest performances of the season for the Lady Raptors. She went 3-for-4 with one run and six RBIs in a 9-0 win over Nyack College (March 14, Game 1). She had a double and a home run in that game as well, making her 6-for-7 with nine RBIs, four runs, two doubles and two home runs over two games. Later in the Raptors’ trip to Florida, she went 2-for-2 with two home runs, two walks, three runs and five RBIs in an 11-3 win over Northwestern College (March 16, Game 1). Her two home runs tied a single-game program record. That performance helped her earn her first of two NJAC Rookie of the Week honors, coming March 19.
Her second NJAC Rookie of the Week award came on May 8, aided by her big game when the Raptors defeated Ramapo, 4-0, in the winners’ bracket final of the NJAC playoffs May 5. Skroski went 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles and one RBI in that contest. The Lady Raptors wrapped up the NJAC championship the next day for their third conference title in the last four seasons.
During the season, Skroski had 13 multi-hit games, including her four-hit day against Ramapo and six three-hit games. She also had four games with three or more RBIs.
In addition to her offensive heroics, Skroski finished fifth on the team in putouts (49) and fourth in assists (57), while also pitching nine innings in relief.
With only one season behind her, Skroski already ranks ninth on the Rutgers-Camden career list with her six home runs.
Skroski received four varsity softball letters and two varsity tennis letters at Sterling High School, where she played for Coaches John Watts and Tara Corcoran. She set 10 softball records for the Silver Knights during a career which saw her capture four honors as a First Team All-Colonial Conference player. She also earned three First Team All-South Jersey Group 2 honors from the Courier-Post newspaper.
Skroski captured All-State honors as a senior in 2006, when she was the South Jersey home run leader with nine. During her senior year she also earned All-South Jersey First Team and All-Group 2 First Team honors from the Courier-Post after hitting .616 with 57 RBIs and 39 runs scored. On the mound, she posted a 9-2 record and a 1.71 ERA.
Skroski also earned First Team All-Group 2 honors as a sophomore and a junior and Second Team All-Group 2 during her freshman year. During her sophomore season in 2004, Skroski was named First Team All-South Jersey by both the Courier-Post and the Philadelphia Inquirer after hitting .436. She was named Second Team All-South Jersey by both newspapersas a junior.
