Kristen Cargen finally had the chance to display her soccer talents during the 2006 campaign at Rutgers-Camden. After missing the entire 2005 season due to injuries, Cargen became the Lady Raptors’ No. 1 goalie, playing in 19 games, starting 15, and posting a 7-7-1 record with a 1.27 goals-against average. Her total of 1,350:35 minutes in goal was the fifth-highest single-season total in program history.

Cargen played a role in all seven of the Raptors’ team shutouts, including two individual shutouts against Wesley College (two saves in a 2-0 win Oct. 17) and New Jersey City University (two saves in a 7-0 win Oct. 25).

Cargen notched 63 saves last season, including a high of nine in a fine effort as the Raptors edged Ursinus College, 2-1, Sept. 13. She also had eight saves in the Raptors’ 3-0 loss against perennial New Jersey Athletic Conference powerhouse Montclair State University (Sept. 30). She faced her season high of 19 shots against the Red Hawks.

Beginning with the last 19:22 of the Montclair State game, Cargen rolled off a string of 200:42 consecutive scoreless minutes in goal, the sixth-longest string in program history. The streak also included shutout minutes against Albright (Oct. 3, 65 minutes) and scoreless halves against Philadelphia Biblical University (Oct. 5) and the College of St. Elizabeth (Oct. 7). The string ended with a goal by Arcadia University at 26:20 on Oct. 9.

Cargen opened the season with a pair of victories over Bridgewater and Shenandoah as the Raptors won the Shenandoah Women’s Soccer Shootout Sept. 2-3. She played the first half in each game, collecting one save against Bridgewater and two against Shenandoah. In addition to her wins over Ursinus, Wesley and NJCU, Cargen notched a victory over Cabrini (3-2 Sept. 6, making three saves) and Kean University (2-1, Sept. 23, making four saves). She faced 18 shots against Kean.

A 2003 graduate of Cherry Hill High School East, Cargen earned four varsity soccer letters with the Cougars, where she played for Coach Victor Dombrosky. She was named Rookie of the Year as a freshman and captured Second Team All-Conference honors as a junior and a senior.

A Criminal Justice major at Rutgers-Camden, Kristen is the daughter of Eileen Groark and Thomas Cargen of Cherry Hill.
