Brittney Mancine returns for her final season with the Rutgers-Camden women’s soccer program. Mancine, who has played in 40 games during her two seasons with the Lady Raptors, will serve as the team captain in 2007, while anchoring the Lady Raptors’ defense from her sweeper position.
Mancine turned in a fine junior season last fall, scoring two goals, adding one assist and helping the Raptors collect seven shutouts. She played in all 20 games, starting 19, and capped her season by earning New Jersey Athletic Conference Honorable Mention recognition.
Mancine notched a goal in the Raptors’ season-opening 4-0 win over Bridgewater College (Sept. 2). She also added a goal in the Raptors’ 2-1 win over Ursinus College (Sept. 13) and collected her assist in a 2-0 win at Wesley College (Oct. 17).
A transfer from Camden County College, Mancine contributed four assists during her first season at Rutgers-Camden in 2005, tying for second on the team in that category. With her rugged play and ability in the back, she helped the Lady Raptors tie the program’s single-season record with 10 shutouts. Rutgers-Camden proved to be one of the toughest defensive teams in the NJAC, finishing third in the league in goals-against average (1.00), shutouts and shutouts per game (0.50). The Raptors also notched four consecutive shutouts from Oct. 5-15, part of a program record of 409:20 consecutive scoreless minutes by goalie Therese Comella.
Mancine played a major role in that shutout streak as she earned the school’s Raptor of the Week honor on Oct. 17 and added recognition the same day as the NJAC Defensive Player of the Week. She added to her honors on Oct. 18 when she was named ECAC Metro Player of the Week.
Offensively, Mancine assisted on both goals during a 2-0 win over Rutgers-Newark (Sept. 28). She also had assists against SUNY-Farmingdale (Sept. 8) and Swarthmore (Sept. 11).
During Mancine’s one season at Camden County College in 2004, she was named to the NJCAA Division III All-American Second Team and also captured All-Region XIX First Team honors. Mancine led the Cougars to the Division III Final Four by pacing the team in scoring with 32 points. She tied for the team lead with 11 goals and led the squad with 10 assists. She collected three assists and one goal against Springfield Technical Community College (Sept. 11), and had games with one goal and two assists on two occasions, coming against Gloucester County College (Sept. 29) and Middlesex County College (Oct. 20).
Mancine, who was honored as Camden County College’s Woman of the Year, earned three varsity soccer letters at Lenape High School. She was honored as a Second Team All-Olympic Conference American Division player as a junior in 2001, when the Indians captured the Courier-PostCup as the top team in South Jersey.
Mancine helped her club team, the Mt. Laurel United Xtremes reach the State Cup finals in 2004.
A Criminal Justice major at Rutgers-Camden, Brittney is the daughter of Kathy and Cliff Mancine of Mt. Laurel. |
