Rutgers-Camden’s Guishard named
to Academic All-District 2 First Team
CAMDEN (Nov. 2, 2006) – Rutgers University-Camden junior midfielder Rodney Guishard (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was named to the ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-District 2 Men’s Soccer First Team it was announced today.
By earning First Team All-District honors, Guishard automatically will be included on the Academic All-America ballot for the program which is run by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Guishard was one of two New Jersey Athletic Conference players from a Rutgers University campus to make the College Division All-District 2 teams. A member of the Second Team was senior midfielder Guillermo de Veyga from Rutgers-Newark, who carries a 3.94 as a Political Science major.
A Marketing major with a 3.63 GPA, Guishard played in 18 games, starting 12 this season for the Scarlet Raptors, who posted a 10-4-6 record and earned the second seed in the New Jersey Athletic Conference playoffs for the second straight year. He collected five goals and five assists for 15 points, third on the club in scoring. He led the team with three game-winning goals.

Guishard had two goals and one assist, including the game-winning goal, in a 3-0 win over Neumann College Sept. 6. In the Scarlet Raptors’ own Cialella Soccer Classic Sept. 8-9, he assisted on the team’s lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Alvernia Friday and notched the tying goal in a 1-1 deadlock with Wesley College Saturday. Guishard was named to the Cialella Soccer Classic All-Tournament Team. His big week gave him recognition as Rutgers-Camden’s Raptor of the Week on Sept. 11. The next day he received national recognition from the first-year on-line website when he was named to the second weekly d3kicks.com Team of the Week.
One of the Scarlet Raptors’ team captains, Guishard had a knack of scoring clutch goals this season. He had the game-winning goal against conference powerhouse Richard Stockton College in a 1-0 win Oct. 11. He also scored the game-winning goal in a 3-2 victory at No. 22-ranked New Jersey City University Oct. 25.
One of Guishard’s assists came as the Raptors tied Rowan, 2-2, with 1:01 remaining in regulation Sept. 20.
A third-year player with the Raptors, Guishard finished fifth on the team in scoring as a sophomore, collecting five goals and three assists for 13 points. Two of his goals were game-winning tallies, including a tally with 18:07 remaining in a 2-1 win over pre-season No. 22
Elizabethtown College on Sept. 1, 2005. That helped him earn Raptor of the Week honors on Sept. 5.
In 59 career games at Rutgers-Camden, Guishard owns 40 points (14 goals, 12 assists).
In addition to his soccer talents, Guishard earned New Jersey Athletic Conference All-Academic Honorable Mention recognition during his sophomore year. He also serves as the co-chair of Rutgers-Camden’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).
Rodney is the son of Rodney and Helen Guishard of Mays Landing.
