Rutgers-Camden’s Evans named
to d3kicks.com Team of the Week

CAMDEN (Oct. 24, 2006) – Rutgers University-Camden junior Ryan Evans (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) has become the third Scarlet Raptor men’s soccer player this season to be named to the d3kicks.com Team of the Week.

Evans, who has played both back and forward for the Scarlet Raptors, was named to the eighth weekly team today by the on-line soccer website, which made its debut this fall.

Evans, who also was named as the school’s Raptor of the Week on Monday, turned in a pair of outstanding performances last week as Rutgers-Camden posted road ties against a pair of teams that have been nationally ranked this season. On Oct. 18, the 6-2 back helped the Raptors become the only team this season to blank powerful Franklin & Marshall College, which was ranked No. 19 nationally at the time in the NSCAA/adidas Division III Top 25. The Raptors played to a 0-0 tie against the Diplomats, who moved up to No. 18 in today’s latest poll.

In his other game of the week, against a Ramapo College team which has been ranked as high as No. 11 nationally in the d3kicks.com Top 25 poll, Evans moved up to the front line late in the game and scored the tying goal in a 1-1 deadlock Oct. 22. His goal came with 3:24 left in regulation. It was his second late-game tying goal this season. The first one came in a in a 2-2 tie at Rowan University Sept. 20, when he scored with 1:01 remaining in regulation.

Evans has three goals this season. In addition to his two game-tying goals, he scored the winning goal in a 3-1 win over Philadelphia Biblical University Oct. 5.

In addition to Evans, junior back Chris Amato (Stratford, NJ/Sterling) was named to the d3kicks.com Team of the Week Oct. 10 and junior  midfielder Rodney Guishard (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) was named to that team on Sept. 12.

During his three years with the Rutgers-Camden soccer team, Evans has played in 53 games, scoring nine goals (four game-winning tallies) and adding four assists for 22 points.

An Accounting major at Rutgers-Camden who plans to become a CPA, Evans was selected to the National Dean’s List and is the President of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He is the son of Tony and Nannette Evans of Medford.

Rutgers-Camden, 9-4-5 overall and 4-2-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, closes the regular season with a 3 p.m. game Wednesday at New Jersey City University. The winner of that game will be the second seed in the upcoming NJAC playoffs and earn a first-round bye on Saturday.
