Guishard’s goal, Cunningham’s record
lift Rutgers-Camden past Stockton

POMONA (Oct. 11, 2006) – Rutgers University-Camden junior midfielder Rodney Guishard (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) spent most of the past week recovering from an ankle injury suffered in a game against Arcadia University Oct. 2.

Guishard’s recovery helped to keep the Scarlet Raptors healthy in the competitive New Jersey Athletic Conference race. He scored the lone goal of the game as the Raptors edged Richard Stockton College, 1-0, in a matchup of elite NJAC teams here Wednesday night.

Rutgers-Camden improves to 9-3-3 overall and 4-1-1 in the NJAC with its fourth consecutive win. Stockton, which received 19 votes toward the d3kicks.com Top 25 on Tuesday and has been ranked in the NSCAA/adidas Div. III Top 25 at times this year, falls to 9-3-1 and 2-3-1 in the conference.

Guishard, who missed two games since his injury and returned to play sparingly in the Raptors’ win over John Jay Monday, found the net from inside a crowded box at 52:10. It was his fourth goal of the season.

Guishard’s goal helped senior goalkeeper David Cunningham (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) become the school’s all-time leader in wins by a keeper with 31. Cunningham raised his record to 7-1-3 on the season, making five saves to record his third shutout of the season. He owns a 31-10-10 record in his career.

In the first half, Stockton midfielder A.J. Colubiale (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May) appeared to score a goal, but it was disallowed on a handball call. Colubiale also had another great chance for Stockton with 28:30 remaining in the game, first hitting the post then shooting just wide of the net on the rebound.

The Ospreys out-shot the Scarlet Raptors, 9-4, and held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. In the physical NJAC battle, there were 37 fouls. Both coaching staffs were hit with cards as a yellow card was issued to the Rutgers-Camden bench and a red card to the Stockton bench.

Matt
Hart (Dayton, NJ/South Brunswick) had three saves in the loss for Stockton.

Both teams return to NJAC action Saturday. Stockton plays a 1 p.m. game at Ramapo, while Rutgers-Camden hosts William Paterson at 6 p.m.
