Rutgers-Camden men past PBU

CAMDEN (Oct. 5, 2006) – Junior back Chris Amato (Stratford, NJ/Sterling) and junior midfielder Pat Baldiserra (Milmay, NJ/Buena Regional) each collected a goal and an assist to power the Rutgers University-Camden men’s soccer team over Philadelphia Biblical University, 3-1, in a non-conference game here Thursday night.

Rutgers-Camden improves to 6-3-3, while PBU falls to 8-3.

Rutgers-Camden outshot Philadelphia Biblical University, 34-6, and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks in the game.

The Scarlet Raptors took a 1-0 halftime lead, notching a goal by Amato with 1:03 remaining before halftime. Amato’s third goal of the season, a five-yard shot, came after a pair of quick passes inside the box from Baldiserra and senior forward Evan Graves (Somerdale, NJ/Triton Regional).

The Raptors padded their lead at 60:25 on the second goal of the season by junior Ryan Evans (Medford, NJ/Shawnee). Evans, who played both back and forward in the game, was assisted by freshmen Dom Crocetti (Medford, NJ/Holy Cross) and Mark Gidjunis (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson).

After building a 2-0 lead, the Raptors saw the Crimson Eagles slice the margin in half on a goal by sophomore midfielder Jeremy Dunham (Franklin, NJ/Timothy Christian) at 65:36. Dunham scored off a short pass to the right around a Rutgers defensive wall on a restart by junior forward Derek Mosely (Newport News, VA/Denbigh Baptist Christian).  

Baldiserra tacked on an insurance goal at 76:26, assisted by Amato.

Rutgers-Camden senior keeper David Cunningham (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) made two saves as he raised his record to 5-1-3. Sophomore goalie Mattias van’t Hoenderdaal (Alkmaar, The Netherlands/CSG Jan Arentsz) made eight saves and played an outstanding game in goal for the Crimson Eagles.

Both teams return to action with home games Saturday. Philadelphia Biblical University hosts Morrisville State University at 2 p.m. Rutgers-Camden plays the second half of a women’s/men’s Homecoming Day doubleheader when it entertains Lincoln University at 3 p.m.
