NJAC tabs Rutgers-Camden’s Cunningham
as men’s soccer Defensive Player of the Week

CAMDEN (Sept. 18, 2006) – Rutgers University-Camden senior goalkeeper David Cunningham (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) was named today as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

Cunningham’s honor came after the senior keeper posted a 2-0 record and recorded 152:58 shutout minutes in a pair of Scarlet Raptor wins last week. He earned a shutout during a 2-0 victory over Albright College Sept. 12 and worked 62:58 while splitting a shutout among three keepers in the Raptors’ NJAC opener Saturday, a 5-0 win over Rutgers-Newark.

Cunningham made four saves in each game.

Cunningham owns a 3-1-1 record, a 0.62 goals-against average and 20 saves for the season.  He is 27-10-8 with eight shutouts and 211 saves over his Scarlet Raptor career.

One of the top goalies in the NJAC, Cunningham had a breakthrough year as a sophomore in 2004, earning First Team All-NJAC honors and adding NSCAA Division III All-Metro Region First Team recognition as well. He also earned NJAC All-Academic First Team honors in the classroom. At the Raptors’ post-season team banquet, he was honored as the club’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Last season, despite playing through injuries, he posted a 10-3-1 record and a 1.14 GAA.

Rutgers-Camden, 3-2-1 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC, plays a 7 p.m. game Wednesday at conference rival Rowan University.
A Finance major at Rutgers-Camden, David is the son of Russell and Katherine Cunningham of Voorhees.
