Rutgers-Camden, Arcadia men
play to 1-1 non-conference tie
CAMDEN (Oct. 2, 2006) – Rutgers University-Camden junior back Chris Amato (Stratford, NJ/Sterling) scored a first-half goal and Arcadia University sophomore midfielder Shawn Coller (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) notched a second-half tally as the two teams played to a 1-1 non-conference tie in double overtime here Monday night.
The deadlock leaves the Scarlet Raptors at 5-3-3, while the visiting Scarlet Knights stand at 4-2-3.
In a high-paced game between a pair of quality teams, the Raptors jumped on the scoreboard at 35:04 when senior midfielder Michael Reed (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) sent a long restart into the box. Amato leaped over a crowd at the left post to head home his second goal of the season.
Arcadia knotted the score at 76:16 on Coller’s first goal of the season. He scored off a cross to the left post by senior Justin Savino (Wilmington, DE/Charter High School of Wilmington).
The two teams battled through a pair of scoreless 10-minute overtime periods before settling with the draw. Arcadia outshot Rutgers-Camden, 23-14, including 9-5 in the second half. The Scarlet Knights also held a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Rutgers-Camden senior goalie David Cunningham (Eastern, NJ/Voorhees) made eight saves, while freshman Jeff Kratohwill (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) had four saves for Arcadia.
Arcadia hosts Immaculata University Wednesday at 4 p.m. Rutgers-Camden entertains Philadelphia Biblical University Thursday at 7 p.m.
