Evans’ late goal lifts Rutgers-Camden
to 2-2 NJAC tie at Rowan University

GLASSBORO (Sept. 20, 2006) – Junior back Ryan Evans (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) scored the tying goal with 1:01 remaining in regulation and the Rutgers University-Camden men’s soccer team played to a 2-2 overtime tie at Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday night.

Evans scored his first goal of the season by knocking home a cross sent into the box by junior midfielder Rodney Guishard (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest). Junior midfielder James Fiorani (Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Regional) also assisted on the play.
The teams played a pair of 10-minute scoreless overtime periods, leaving Rutgers-Camden with a 3-2-2 record overall and 1-0-1 in the NJAC. Rowan is 6-2-1 and 0-1-1.

Rowan had taken a 2-1 lead at 72:15 when senior back Dave Smith (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) headed in a free kick by senior back Doug Johnson (Shamong, NJ/Shawnee).

Evans’ goal capped a night in which the Scarlet Raptors rallied from a pair of one-goal deficits. Rowan jumped on the scoreboard at 16:31 when senior forward Dwayne Reevey (Fair Haven, NJ/Rumson-Fair Haven) put back a shot in the box. A pair of seniors, back Andrew Bergman (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) and forward Robert McMullen (Barrington, NJ/Northern Burlington) each collected an assist on the play.

Rutgers-Camden tied the game at 40:40 when junior back Chris Amato (Stratford, NJ/Sterling) headed in a pass from senior midfielder Michael Reed (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East). It was the first Rutgers-Camden goal for Amato, a transfer from Camden County College.

Rutgers-Camden outshot Rowan, 23-21, and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Profs were called for 32 fouls, including one yellow card, to the Raptors’ 12.

Senior goalie David Cunningham (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) made 11 saves for Rutgers-Camden, including two in the second overtime period. Senior keeper Anthony Clemente (Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) had 14 saves for Rowan, including nine in the second half and one in each of the overtime periods.

Rutgers-Camden returns to NJAC action Saturday when it hosts Kean University at 1 p.m.
