Guishard's big night lifts Oswald
to first coaching win with Raptors

CHESTER, PA (Sept. 6, 2006) – Junior midfielder Rodney Guishard (Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) collected two goals and one assist to power the Rutgers University-Camden men’s soccer team over Neumann College, 3-0, in a non-conference game here Wednesday night. The game was played at Widener University due to field problems at Neumann.

The victory was the first of the season for the Scarlet Raptors (1-1) and the first win under new head coach Tim Oswald.

Neumann falls to 0-3.

Guishard, who finished fifth on the team in scoring last year with 13 points (five goals, three assists), notched the only goal the Raptors needed at 6:24 off an assist from freshman midfielder Mark Gidjunis (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson).  It was the first collegiate point for Gidjunis.

The Raptors didn’t waste any time padding their lead after halftime. Only 46 seconds into the second half, Guishard scored again, this time assisted by junior back Chris Amato (Stratford, NJ/Sterling). Guishard capped his huge night at 61:33 when he assisted on a goal by sophomore forward Andrew Dorsey (Mt. Laurel, NJ/The King’s Christian School).

Senior goalkeeper David Cunningham (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern), making his first appearance of the season, played most of the game, making two saves. He combined on the shutout with freshman Corey McDonough (Philadelphia, PA/North Catholic), who was making his first collegiate appearance.

For Neumann, freshman Cory Grove (Allentown, PA/Parkland) made his first collegiate start and notched five saves.

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Friday and Saturday when it hosts its Sixth Annual Cialella Soccer Classic. Action begins Friday at 5 p.m. with Delaware Valley College facing Wesley College. At 7:15 p.m., Rutgers-Camden plays Alvernia College.
