#9
Onur Yilmaz

Name: Onur Yilmaz
Hometown: Delran, NJ
High School: Delran
College Major: Finance
Position: Midfielder
Height: 6-0

One of the most dangerous offensive players in the New Jersey Athletic Conference when healthy, Onur Yilmaz had another fine year at Rutgers-Camden in 2006.

Yilmaz played in 15 games during his second season at Rutgers-Camden, starting seven, despite being hampered by injuries. He collected two goals, including one game winner, and added three assists to produce seven points.

In his two seasons with the Raptors, Yilmaz owns eight goals (three game-winning goals) and six assists for 22 points.

Yilmaz collected two assists in the Raptors’ 5-0 win over Rutgers-Newark (Sept. 16), setting up the first two goals of the game, both by Michael Reed. He added another multi-point game on Oct. 9 when he notched one goal and one assist in an 8-0 victory over John Jay College of Criminal Justice. His goal, 9:08 into the contest, proved to be the game-winning tally.

Yilmaz was enjoying an outstanding maiden season at Rutgers-Camden in 2005, before injuries ended his campaign prematurely. He played in 15 games, starting 10, and finished fourth on the Scarlet Raptors with 15 points. He notched six goals, including a pair of game-winning tallies, and three assists.

Yilmaz produced all of his scoring in the Raptors’ first eight games, including one goal apiece in his first four games at Rutgers-Camden, wins over Elizabethtown (Sept. 1), York (Sept. 3), Philadelphia Biblical University (Sept. 6) and Alvernia (Sept. 9). His goals against York and Alvernia proved to be his two game-winning tallies of the season, and he scored them in contrasting fashion. Against York, he scored 1:58 into the game to spark a 9-0 win. In the Alvernia game, his goal with 19:16 remaining broke a 1-1 deadlock.

Yilmaz, the cousin of 2005 Scarlet Raptor tri-captain Baris Uslu, also scored goals against Albright (Sept. 13) and Rowan (Sept. 21). In the Albright and York games, he added one assist to set his Rutgers-Camden career high of three points in each contest. He tied that total with his three points against John Jay in 2006.

Yilmaz had his other 2005 assist in a 4-3 overtime victory against Richard Stockton College (Sept. 17).

After playing in 11 of the Raptors’ first 13 games, Yilmaz missed four games with injuries, and only played sparingly in the final four contests.

Yilmaz was a soccer letterman at Delran High School, where he earned First Team Burlington County Patriot Division honors as a senior in 2000. He also was named Second Team All-Group 2 by the Courier-Post newspaper that season.

In 2001, he captured National Junior College Athletic Association First Team All-Region XIX honors while playing for Camden County College.

A Finance major at Rutgers-Camden, Onur is the son of Hayrettin and Sema Yilmaz of Delran.
