After two years in the Rutgers-Camden midfield, James Fiorani switched to the back last season, where he helped solidify one of the best defensive units in program history. Fiorani helped the Raptors post 10 shutouts, record the second-lowest goals-against average in program history (0.70) and capture the ECAC Metro tournament championship.
A big, strong center back, Fiorani also contributed two assists on the season, coming in a 2-2 tie against Rowan University (Sept. 20) and a 2-0 win over Lincoln University (Oct. 7). His assist against Rowan came on Ryan Evans’ game-tying goal with 1:01 remaining in regulation.
Entering his senior season, Fiorani has played in 58 games at Rutgers-Camden, producing four assists.
Fiorani was a key midfield reserve for Rutgers-Camden as a sophomore in 2005, playing in all 21 games and making one start against Delaware Valley College (Oct. 3). He notched a pair of assists on the season, including his first collegiate point against Alvernia College (Sept. 9). That assist led to the game-winning goal by Onur Yilmaz as the Raptors posted a 2-1 victory.
Fiorani also collected the game-winning assist with a through ball to Baris Uslu, who scored the tie-breaking goal in an eventual 4-1 win over Cabrini College Oct. 8.
Fiorani played in 16 games as a freshman midfielder at Rutgers-Camden in 2004, including a pair of starts for the Scarlet Raptors. He made his collegiate debut in a 3-1 win at Elizabethtown College (Sept. 1) and made his first start in a 3-1 victory over Alvernia (Sept. 5). He also started a 2-0 win over Lincoln University (Oct. 4).
Fiorani captured Honorable Mention Tri-County Conference Royal Division honors as a scholastic junior, when he helped his Cumberland Regional High School team capture the South Jersey Group 3 championship. He earned Second Team all-conference honors as a senior to cap his fine four-year scholastic soccer career. He also was an Honor Roll student at Cumberland.
Fiorani’s hobbies include hunting and watching all sports.
A Criminal Justice major who plans to become a state police trooper, James is the son of James and Laurie Fiorani of Bridgeton.
