Tim VanLiew and CJ Mooney both brought national attention to the Rutgers University-Camden athletic program last week with lofty honors in their respective sports.

VanLiew, a sophomore on the men’s track team, threw the javelin in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 28 at Ohio Wesleyan University and finished seventh overall to earn All-American honors. He broke his own program record with a throw of 62.13 meters (203-10) to cap a sensational scholastic year which also saw him earn New Jersey Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Year during the fall men’s soccer season.

Mooney, meanwhile, became the Scarlet Raptors’ first honoree on the NCAA Division III ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team. The junior first baseman captured the Mid-Atlantic Region Gold Glove honor and added the national honor two days later to cap a tremendous spring in his first season at Rutgers-Camden.
