Teon Russell
(Camden, NJ/Woodrow Wilson)

Sophomore guard/forward Teon Russell earns his second Raptor of the Week honor this basketball season after collecting his fifth double-double in 10 games for the Scarlet Raptors. With 24 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots Saturday, Russell helped the men’s basketball team defeat Montclair State, 69-59, in Camden and snap the Scarlet Raptors’ 10-game losing streak against the Red Hawks. Rutgers-Camden hadn’t defeated Montclair State since Jan. 28, 2004 at MSU, and hadn’t beaten the Red Hawks in Camden since Dec. 6, 1991. Overall, Russell averaged 16.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 1.5 assists and 0.5 steals in two games last week as Rutgers-Camden went 1-1 in a pair of New Jersey Athletic Conference games. The Raptors are 3-3 in the conference, locked in a three-way tie for fifth place. Russell, meanwhile, leads the NJAC in rebounds (10.7 rpg) and defensive rebounds (8.8), is second in minutes per game (33.8), third in scoring (15.3 ppg), fifth in field goal percentage (.492), tied for seventh in steals (1.7 spg) and blocks (1.1 bpg) and is 11th in free throw percentage (.733). He also was the Raptor of the Week on Nov. 19.
