Sophomore Teon Russell opened his 2012-13 basketball season in style, collecting a pair of double-doubles and earning a berth on the all-tournament team at Rutgers-Camden’s inaugural Battle by the Bridge tournament. Russell notched career highs of 15 points, 12 rebounds and two steals, while tying his high of two blocked shots, in a season-opening win over Penn State-Berks Friday night. In Saturday’s championship game against Westfield State University, he raised his personal bar with another set of career highs, collecting 24 points and 15 rebounds in the Scarlet Raptors’ overtime loss. For the weekend he shot 15-for-35 from the floor (.429), including 1-for-2 (.500) from three-point range, and was 8-for-9 (.889) from the foul line. He averaged 19.5 points and 13.5 rebounds, while adding three blocks, three steals and one assist.
