Patrick Eigbe Jr. joined the Rutgers-Camden cross country team during the 2006 fall season, giving him a competitive sport for every season of the school year. Eigbe already had established himself as one of the top performers on the Scarlet Raptors’ indoor and outdoor track teams.
Eigbe also competed in three meets during the 2007 cross country season, posting his personal-best 8K time of 35:38.8 at the New York University Invitational Sept. 15. He also had a 25:36.67 clocking in the Mixed 6K Run at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships Oct. 27.
Eigbe competed in five cross country meets in 2006. His top 8K time of 37:16.07 was recorded at the Goldey Beacom College Cross Country Fall Classic Oct. 7.
During his second year with the Rutgers-Camden indoor track program over the 2006-07 winter, Eigbe set a program record in the 55-meter dash (6.94 at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships, Feb. 19) and was a part of the record-setting 4x200 relay (1:42.7 at the Lebanon Valley College Invitational Jan. 27). He also briefly held the 200-meter dash mark (24.86 at the Collegeville Invitational Jan. 19) before it was lowered by teammate Stefon Coleman.
Overall, Eigbe competed in four invitationals during the 2006-07 indoor season after being one of the first members on the Scarlet Raptors’ inaugural indoor track team (2005-06). That winter he established the old school records in both the 55-meter dash (7.11) and the 200-meter dash (24.89) at the NJAC Championships (Feb. 19, 2006). He also ran on the old school-record 4x400 team (3:51.86) at the Frank Colden Invitational (Feb. 4).
During the spring 2007 season, Eigbe collected his third varsity letter on the outdoor track team. He competed in the 200- and 400-meter dashes and also was a member of the Raptors’ record-setting team in the 800 sprint medley, which finished second at the Richard Stockton Invitational (March 24). That squad, which included Akeem Lloyd, Stefon Coleman and anchor Jonathan Salamon, set the school record with a time of 1:37.69. Eigbe ran the leadoff leg.
Eigbe’s best time in the 200 last spring came at the NJAC Championships (May 5), when he notched a 23.39 clocking to finish 15th in the conference. He had a time of 56.28 in the 400-meter dash at the Osprey Open (April 7).
Eigbe also was a member of the Rutgers-Camden outdoor track team during the 2005 and 2006 seasons. During the 2006 season, he competed in the 100- and 200-meter dashes and also ran on the 4x400 relay team. In addition, he competed once in the 400-meter dash and was a member of the old school-record distance medley relay team (11:34.62) at the Richard Stockton Invitational (March 25), a mark broken last spring. He set personal bests of 12.01 in the 100-meter dash and 24.05 at 200 meters (both at the Lions Invitational, April 29), before lowering the 200-meter time in 2007. He also recorded his top 400-meter time of 55.8 (Lebanon Valley, April 12).
During the 2005 season, Eigbe ran on the 4x800-meter relay team which set the old school record (9:30.68) at the Messiah Invitational (April 9). That time also was shattered during the 2007 season.
Eigbe also competed in the 200- and 400-meter dashes, posting his top freshman times of 24.55 at 200 meters (Grizzly Invitational, April 16) and 56.18 at 400 meters (also at Messiah).
Eigbe ran scholastic track for Coach Doug Coleman at Absegami High School. He also played junior varsity soccer for the Braves and was listed in Who’s Who Among High School Students. He had a 4.0 GPA at Absegami.
A Dean’s List student at Rutgers-Camden who earned NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention in 2006, Eigbe volunteers at the Ronald McDonald house in Camden.
