Michael McClain competed in three meets during his second year with the cross country program this fall, adding to his long-standing success with the Rutgers-Camden indoor and outdoor track programs.
McClain notched his top 8K time of 39:04.86 at the Cabrini Invitational (Oct. 13). He also competed in the Mixed 6K Run at the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships (Oct. 27), recording a time of 30:33.05.
McClain earned his first varsity cross country letter for the Raptors during the 2006 fall season. Competing in four invitationals, he posted his top 8K time of 40:57.88 at the NJAC Championships (Oct. 28).
The spring 2007 season marked McClain’s third year with the Scarlet Raptors’ outdoor track program. He participated in the long jump and triple jump, posting his best all-around performance at the NJAC Championships on May 5. He was 10th in the triple jump (36-01.75) and 12th in the long jump with his personal-best leap of 17-11.25.
McClain’s best triple jump of the season and his career was 36-04.0, coming at the Danny Curran Invitational (March 31).
During the 2006 campaign, McClain competed in the long jump and triple jump, in addition to one meet in the 100-meter dash. He notched his best triple jump at the Danny Curran Invitational (35-2, April 1, 2006) and top long jump at the New Jersey Invitational (16-7, April 15).
McClain made his collegiate athletic debut in the spring of 2005, competing in the long jump at three meets. He had his top jump of 16-6.5 at the Grizzly Invitational (April 16). He finished 10th at the NJAC Championships (May 7) with a leap of 16-1.
Over the 2006-07 winter, McClain returned to the indoor track team after being a member of the Scarlet Raptors’ inaugural indoor team during the 2005-06 season. He competed in the long jump, triple jump and the 55-meter dash last winter. His top indoor long jump was 17-2.69 at the Collegeville Invitational (Jan. 19, 2007), good for an 18th-place finish. He also set an indoor program record of 35-8.74 in the triple jump at the Frank Colden Invitational (Feb. 3, 2007), when he finished 15th.
During his first indoor season, his long jump of 16-2.5 was good for a 13th-place finish at the indoor NJAC Championships (Feb. 19, 2006). His best 55-meter time was 7.9 at Lebanon Valley College (Jan. 28. 2006).
In addition to his athletic accomplishments, McClain is a member of the Rutgers-Camden Honors College and is currently serving as the president of the Honors Advisory Board. He is a Biology major who plans to attend medical school.
McClain was a National Honors Society member and a Summa Cum Laude graduate at Bishop Eustace Prep School in Pennsauken. He also earned three letters apiece in indoor and outdoor track for the Crusaders, where he holds the school record in the three-man triple jump relay.
McClain enjoys scuba diving and studying ancient cultures abroad. He already has studied in Greece, Turkey and Egypt.
