Rutgers-Camden golfers
close spring with victory

WYOMING, Delaware (April 29, 2008) – The Rutgers University-Camden golf team closed its season on a high note as the Scarlet Raptors defeated the Wesley College “B” team, 332-353, in a dual match here Tuesday at the Par 72 Wild Quail Golf and Country Club.

Sophomore Dave Taraschi (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) was the overall medalist for the second straight outing and third time this season, shooting a 77, as Rutgers-Camden posted its second-best team score of the season. The victory was the second straight in dual competition for the Scarlet Raptors.

In addition to Taraschi, the Raptors also received standout performances by juniors Michael Nauss (Blackwood, NJ/Paul VI) and Dave Henry (Medford, NJ/Shawnee). Nauss, who missed the Scarlet Raptors’ last three matches, returned to shoot a round of 79, finishing second overall behind Taraschi. Henry was one stroke back, finishing third overall with an 80.

Rutgers-Camden sophomore Reginald Richter (Erial, NJ/Timber Creek) shot a 96 and sophomore Matt Dobson (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) shot a 108.

The top round from the Wesley “B” team was an 84 by Jeff Owsick.

The Raptors’ 332 team score was their best score since shooting a 320 in a dual match against Richard Stockton College on April 10 in Absecon. It helped the Raptors lower their team average to a 344.4 for the spring season.

Taraschi wrapped up another outstanding semester, posting the Raptors’ top score during all seven rounds of golf (including a two-day invitational) this spring. He finished with a 76.1 average, giving him a career average of 76.8 in 15 rounds during his two seasons at Rutgers-Camden.

Henry finished second on the team with a 78.4 scoring average during his first semester with the program. He also competed in all seven rounds this spring, tying Taraschi for team medalist honors once, finishing second four times (including the two-round Wesley Invitational April 20-21) and third on the team in his last outing Tuesday.

Nauss recorded an 84.3 average in three outings this spring, while Richter averaged 92.2 in six rounds. Senior Justin Melendez (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) shot a 99 in his one outing this spring, while Dobson had a 106.0 average in seven rounds and junior Rob Colby (Audubon, NJ/King’s Christian) averaged 121.7 in three outings.

The best round of the spring was a 73 by Taraschi to win the dual match against Richard Stockton College April 10. That score tied for the sixth-best round in program history.

Raptors’ Taraschi shots 75 to win
RU-Camden Spring Invitational

PENNSAUKEN (April 24, 2008) –Rutgers University-Camden sophomore Dave Taraschi (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) was the overall medalist with a round of 75 at the Par 70 Pennsauken Country Club as the Rutgers University-Camden golf team defeated Richard Stockton College, 336-356, Thursday in the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptors Spring Invitational.

Due to a couple of late scratches, the Scarlet Raptors and the Ospreys were the only two teams to compete in the event.
Rutgers-Camden junior Dave Henry (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) finished one stroke behind his teammate with a 76, while Stockton’s Mike Cascini was third overall with a round of 79.

Rounding out the Rutgers-Camden team effort were sophomores Reginald Richter (Erial, NJ/Timber Creek) and Matt Dobson (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford), with rounds of 86 and 99, respectively. Also competing for Rutgers-Camden was senior Justin Melendez (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), who also shot a 99.

The other three members of Stockton’s team included Dave Rita, who shot an 81, Mike Hemberger (93) and Brian Ross (103).
Rutgers-Camden concludes its season Tuesday, April 29 when it plays a dual match against Wesley College at the Wild Quail Golf and Country Club in Wyoming, Delaware.

Raptors’ Taraschi finishes third
at Wesley Spring Invitational

WYOMING, Delaware (April 21, 2008) –Rutgers University-Camden sophomore Dave Taraschi (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) shot rounds of 74 and 77 to finish third overall with a 151 score at the two-day Wesley Spring Invitational, held Sunday and Monday at the Par 72 Wild Quail Golf and Country Club.

The Scarlet Raptors also received an outstanding performance by junior Dave Henry (Medford, NJ/Shawnee), who shot 77-79-156 to finish seventh out of 40 golfers.

Host Wesley College won the team competition with a 297-307-604 total. Rutgers-Camden, which recorded a 349 team score the first day and a 350 the second day to finish at 699, finished sixth out of seven teams.

Taraschi’s 151 score was only four strokes behind the overall medalist, Michael Rushin of Wesley. Wesley’s Riley Powers finished second with a two-day total of 148.

Rutgers-Camden sophomore Reginald Richter (Erial, NJ/Timber Creek) shot an 89 and a 95 for a two-day total of 184. Sophomore Matt Dobson (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) shot rounds of 109 and 99 to finish at 208, while junior Rob Colby (Audubon, NJ/King’s Christian) finished at 122-143-265.

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Thursday, April 24, when it hosts its own RU-Camden Scarlet Raptors Spring Invitational at the Pennsauken Country Club, beginning at 12:30 p.m.

to lead Rutgers-Camden golfers

SELINSGROVE, Penn. (April 17, 2008) – A pair of Rutgers University-Camden golfers, junior Dave Henry (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and sophomore Dave Taraschi (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) shot rounds of 78 to tie for 16th place out of 95 competitors as the Scarlet Raptors competed at the Susquehanna Spring Invitational here Thursday.

The 19-team competition, held on the Par 70 Susquehanna Valley Country Club, was won by Muhlenberg, which turned in a 308 team score. Rutgers-Camden finished 18th with a 353.

Ryan Smith of the Penn State Club was the individual medalist, shooting a 72, to finish two strokes ahead of both Cliff Mangle (Villa Julie) and Zachary Oyer (Muhlenberg).

In addition to Henry and Taraschi, the Raptors received a 97 from sophomore Reginald Richter (Erial, NJ/Timber Creek). Junior Rob Colby (Audubon, NJ/King’s Christian) shot a 100 and sophomore Matt Dobson (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) shot a 105.

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Thursday, April 24, when it hosts its own RU-Camden Scarlet Raptors Spring Invitational at the Pennsauken Country Club, beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Taraschi powers Rutgers-Camden
to golf win at Richard Stockton

ABSECON (April 10, 2008) – Rutgers University-Camden sophomore Dave Taraschi (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) earned medalist honors with a 73 to power the Scarlet Raptors over Richard Stockton College, 320-349, in a collegiate golf match here Thursday at the Seaview Bay Course.

Taraschi’s round of 73 was his second-best collegiate round and tied for the sixth-best score in Rutgers-Camden program history. He also holds the program record with a 69 at the Tom Ruggieri Invitational II on April 10, 2007.

The Raptors also received a strong performance from junior Dave Henry (Medford, NJ/Shawnee), who shot a 76 in his second collegiate outing for Rutgers-Camden. Junior Michael Nauss (Blackwood, NJ/Paul VI) added an 81, sophomore Reginald Richter (Erial, NJ/Timber Creek) recorded a 90 and sophomore Matt Dobson (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) shot a round of 106.
Stockton’s team effort was paced by Mike Cascini, who shot an 84.

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Thursday, April 17, when it competes in the Susquehanna Invitational, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Susqehanna Valley Country Club in Hummels Wharf, Penn.

Taraschi paces Rutgers-Camden golfers
at LVC Spring Invitational

LEBANON, Penn. (April 7, 2008) – Rutgers University-Camden sophomore golfer Dave Taraschi (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) shot a 79 here Monday at the Par 72 Lebanon Country Club as the Scarlet Raptors opened their season at the Lebanon Valley College Spring Invitational.

The Raptors finished 16th of 21 teams in the invitational, which was won by Albright College (321). Rutgers-Camden shot a 371.

Widener’s Kyle Durham was the individual medalist with a 74. Taraschi finished tied for seventh out of 107 golfers.

Junior David Henry (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) made his Rutgers-Camden golf debut and finished second on the team with an 83, tying for 21st. Junior Michael Nauss (Blackwood, NJ/Paul VI) shot a 93 and sophomore Matt Dobson (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) shot a round of 116.

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Thursday with a 1 p.m. match against Richard Stockton College at Seaview in Absecon.

Taraschi paces Raptors
to RU-Camden title

WOODSTOWN (Oct. 29, 2007) – Rutgers University-Camden sophomore Dave Taraschi (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) shot a 78 to lead the Raptors’ golf team to the title of the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptors Fall Invitational here Monday.
The event, rescheduled from a rainout Oct. 24, was held at the Par 72, 6,496-yard Town & Country Golf Links.

Taraschi, returning from an injury which caused him to miss practically the entire fall season, tied Eastern University’s Drew Krupp with a 78, but lost second place on a match of cards. Richard Stockton’s Lee Colannani shot a 75 to earn individual medalist honors.

Rutgers-Camden won the team title with a 339, followed by Eastern (359) and Philadelphia Biblical University (373). Richard Stockton College and Swarthmore College both fielded incomplete teams.

Taraschi’s score was the top round of the fall for the Scarlet Raptors. It also was his first outing since shooting a season-opening 84 on Sept. 8 at the Wesley College Fall Invitational.

In addition to Taraschi, the Raptors received an 86 from sophomore Reggie Richter (Erial, NJ/Timber Creek), while freshman Kyle Storako (Laurel Springs, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) shot a round of 87.  Senior James Spera (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) recorded an 88 and senior Michael Affannato (Turnersville, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) shot a 99 to round out the Raptor team. Rutgers-Camden senior Justin Melendez (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), competing as an individual, finished with a 124.

The Scarlet Raptors Invitational was the final event of the fall for the injury-riddled Raptors, who posted a 13-43 record on the season. Taraschi's average of 81.0 in two invitationals was the top average on the team.

Rain forces postponement

of RU-Camden Invitational

WOODSTOWN (Oct. 24, 2007) -- The RU-Camden Scarlet Raptors Fall Golf Invitational, scheduled for today, has been postponed due to inclement weather. Rutgers-Camden will try to reschedule the event for early next week.

ALLAMUCHY (Oct. 16, 2007) – Sophomore Neal Patel (Princeton, NJ/Framingham, MA) shot a round of 82 for the Rutgers University-Camden golf team to lead the Scarlet Raptors at the 2007 Cyclone Invitational, hosted by Centenary College, at the Panther Valley Country Club here Tuesday.

Moravian College paced the nine-team field with a 316 score, led by individual medalist Stephen Labiak. Labiak defeated his teammate Lucas Smith on a match of cards after both golfers shot a 76.

Rutgers-Camden finished sixth with a 360.

Sophomore Reggie Richter (Erial, NJ/Timber Creek) finished second on the Raptors with a 90, while freshman Kyle Storako (Laurel Springs, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) shot a round of 93.  Senior James Spera (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) recorded a 95 and senior Michael Affannato (Turnersville, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) shot a 104 in his fall debut.

LEBANON, Penn. (Oct. 15, 2007) – Freshman Kyle Storako (Laurel Springs, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) shot a round of 93 to lead the Rutgers University-Camden golf team at the Muhlenberg College Invitational Monday at the Lehigh Country Club.

Rutgers-Camden recorded a 389 team score to finish 13th out of 15 teams in the event won by Muhlenberg College’s “White” team, which shot a 311.

Hobart’s Jeff Mayo shot a 74 to earn the individual medalist honors.

Rutgers-Camden senior James Spera (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) finished second on the team with a 96, while junior Michael Nauss (Blackwood, NJ/Paul VI) added a 98. Sophomore Reggie Richter (Erial, NJ/Timber Creek) closed out the team effort with a 102.

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the Cyclone Invitational, hosted by Centenary College. It will begin at noon at the Panther Valley Golf & Country Club in Allamuchy.

LANCASTER, Penn. (Oct. 8, 2007) – Junior Michael Nauss (Blackwood, NJ/Paul VI) and freshman Kyle Storako (Laurel Springs, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) each shot a round of 79 on the Par 71 Bent Creek Country Club as the Rutgers University-Camden golf team finished 15th out of 19 teams Monday at the Bent Creek Invitational.

Nauss and Storako finished tied for 22nd out of 84 golfers who finished the match.

Rutgers-Camden posted a 362 team score in the event won by host Franklin and Marshall College. The Diplomats set a school record with a 286 score to finish 17 strokes ahead of second-place Neumann College.

The closest race of the day came for the overall medalist, where three golfers shot a one-under 70 and Keystone College’s Sean Misstishin won on the first playoff hole.

In addition to Storako and Nauss, the Raptors received a 97 from Neal Patel (Princeton, NJ/Framingham, MA) and a 107 from sophomore Matt Dobson (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford).

Rutgers-Camden returns to action Oct. 15 at the Muhlenberg College Invitational, beginning at noon at the Lehigh Country Club in Lebanon, Penn.

WYOMING, Delaware (Sept. 8, 2007) – Rutgers University-Camden sophomore golfer Dave Taraschi (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) shot an 86 here Monday at the Wild Quail Country Club to lead the Scarlet Raptors’ golf team at the season-opening Wesley College Fall Golf Invitational.

The Raptors finished last in the 13-team event, posting a 364 team score on the Par 72, 6,794-yard Wild Quail Country Club course. Franklin & Marshall College won the invitational with a 294 team score, followed by host Wesley with a 298.

Franklin & Marshall’s Dennis Gunderson was the individual medalist with a 71.

Scarlet Raptor freshman Kyle Storako (Laurel Springs, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) recorded an 86 in his first collegiate outing, while junior Reggie Richter (Erial, NJ/Timber Creek) shot a 94 and sophomore Matt Dobson (West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) shot a round of 100.

Raptors senior Jim Spera (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) was forced to withdraw with a shoulder injury.

Rutgers-Camden will have a long layoff until its next outing, when it plays at the Bent Creek Invitational, hosted by Franklin & Marshall College, October 8 in Lititz, Penn.
