Taraschi paces Rutgers-Camden golfers
at Wesley College Spring Invitational

WYOMING, Delaware (April 27, 2007) – Rutgers University-Camden freshman golfer Dave Taraschi (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) shot a 76 here Wednesday at the Wild Quail Country Club to lead the Scarlet Raptors’ golf team at the Wesley College Spring Invitational.

Taraschi finished tied for 17th overall in the 14-team event, which was won by Millersville University (292). Rutgers-Camden shot a 330 to finish 12th.

The individual medalist was West Chester’s Matt Sullivan with a 70.

Taraschi has paced the Scarlet Raptors in all five invitationals this spring, and now owns a 75.8 average on the season.

Senior Matt Tomasic (Berlin, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) finished second on the team with an 80, while junior Jim Spera (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) was third with an 85. Senior Rob Burgess (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), playing in the 35th invitational of his four-year Raptor career, shot an 89, junior Justin Melendez (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) rounded out the Rutgers-Camden effort with a 97 in his second collegiate invitational.

The Scarlet Raptors will host their own RU-Camden Scarlet Raptors Spring Invitational Friday, April 27, beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the Town & Country Golf Links in Woodstown.

Taraschi sets Rutgers-Camden golf record
while winning Tom Ruggieri Invitational

WALLINGFORD, Penn. (April 10, 2007) – Rutgers University-Camden freshman golfer Dave Taraschi (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) set a program record, shooting a 1-under-par 69 en route to winning medalist honors at the Tom Ruggieri Invitational II here Tuesday.

The invitational, hosted by Widener University, was held at The Springhaven Club, a Par 70, 6,355-yard course.

Taraschi, who has led the Scarlet Raptors in all four invitationals this spring, shattered the previous school record of 71, set by Chris Binder at the Susquehanna Spring Invitational April 7, 2005. He also lowered his spring average from a 78.0 to 75.8.

Taraschi’s performance helped the Scarlet Raptors record their lowest score of the spring. Rutgers-Camden shot 329 as a team to finish third in the five-team event. Host Widener won with a 304. Widener’s Kyle Durham finished second behind Taraschi with a 74.

Senior Matt Tomasic (Berlin, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) finished second on Scarlet Raptors with a 79, his best round of the spring. Junior Jim Spera (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and senior Rob Burgess (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) placed third and fourth on the Raptors with 89 and 92, respectively. Rutgers-Camden junior Justin Melendez (Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown), appearing in the first tournament of his collegiate career, shot a 101.

The Scarlet Raptors return to action Wednesday, April 18 at the Wesley College Invitational, which begins at noon at the Wild Quail Country Club in Wyoming, Delaware.

Raptors' Taraschi shoots 80
at Moravian Spring Invitational

BATH, Penn. (April 5, 2007) – Rutgers University-Camden freshman Dave Taraschi (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) shot an 80 for the second straight outing to lead the Rutgers University-Camden golf team in the Moravian College Spring Invitational here Thursday.

The invitational was held at the par 71 Southmoore Golf Course here Thursday.

Rutgers-Camden shot a 344 as a team to finish 12th in the 20-team event, which was won by Keystone College. The Giants shot a 319 to finish five strokes ahead of both FDU-Florham and Widener University.

Brian Bergstol of host Moravian College shot a three-under-par 68 to earn the individual honors in a field of 92 golfers.

Taraschi, who also shot an 80 Monday at the Lebanon Valley College Spring Golf Tournament, owns a team-leading 78 average in the Raptors’ first three invitationals. He finished Thursday’s Moravian Invitational tied for 16th place.

Senior Matt Tomasic (Berlin, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) finished second on Scarlet Raptors, and tied for 32nd overall, with an 84. Rutgers-Camden junior Jim Spera (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and senior Rob Burgess (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) tied for third on the team with rounds of 90.

The Scarlet Raptors return to action Tuesday, April 10 at the Widener Invitational II. It will begin at 1 p.m. at The Springhaven Club in Wallingford, Penn.

Taraschi leads Rutgers-Camden
at Lebanon Valley Invitational

LEBANON, Penn. (April 2, 2007) – Rutgers University-Camden freshman Dave Taraschi (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) shot an 80 on the Par 72 Lebanon Country Club course here Monday, tying for ninth overall as the Scarlet Raptors competed in the Lebanon Valley College Spring Golf Tournament.

Rutgers-Camden shot a 353 as a team to finish tied for 17th in the 23-team event.

Dickinson won the 23-team tournament with a 329.

Elizabethtown’s Bob Pyrz shot a 74 to earn the individual honors in a field of 116 golfers.

Junior Jim Spera (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) finished second on the Raptors with a round of 86, followed by seniors Matt Tomasic (Berlin, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) at 92 and Rob Burgess (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) at 95. Rounding out the Scarlet Raptors’ team was junior Joe Midili (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township), who shot a 99 in his first outing of the spring.

The Scarlet Raptors return to action Thursday, April 5, for the Moravian College Spring Invitational at the Southmoore Golf Course in Bath, Penn.

Taraschi’s 74 leads Rutgers-Camden
at York College Spring Golf Invitational

YORK, Penn. (March 26, 2007) – Rutgers University-Camden freshman Dave Taraschi (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield Memorial) tied for fifth individually with a 74 as the Scarlet Raptors’ golf team opened its season at the York College Spring Golf Invitational here Monday at the Outdoor Country Club.

York’s Sean Leitzell shot a 67 to lead the host team to victory with a 293 score. Rutgers-Camden shot a 331 team score to finish ninth out of 10 teams.

finished second on the Raptors with a round of 80, followed by Michael Schaffer (Vineland/Vineland) with an 88 and Rob Burgess (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), who shot an 89. Rounding out the Rutgers-Camden team was Reginald Richter (Erial, NJ/Timber Creek), with a 93.

The Scarlet Raptors return to action Monday, April 2, where they will play the Lebanon Valley College Spring Tournament at the Lehigh Country Club in Lebanon, Penn.

Taraschi’s strong debut leads Scarlet Raptors
to title at Rutgers-Camden Fall Invitational

WOODSTOWN (Oct. 27, 2006) – Rutgers University-Camden golfer Dave Taraschi (Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield) finally had the chance to make his collegiate debut, and the Scarlet Raptors’ freshman made it a memorable one.

Taraschi, who has been sidelined by an injury all season, shot a 6-over par 78 to earn medalist honors and power Rutgers-Camden to the team title at the RU-Camden Scarlet Raptors Fall Invitational here Friday. The invitational was held at the Par 72 Town & Country Golf Links in Woodstown.

Taraschi’s performance sparked the Raptors to a 350 team score, as they finished three strokes ahead of runnerup Swarthmore College. Haverford College was third (361), followed by Richard Stockton College (381) and Gwynedd-Mercy College (417).

Swarthmore sophomore David Lau finished second with a round of 83. Haverford’s Kevin McGravey and Rutgers-Camden senior Matt Tomasic (Berlin, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) each shot an 86, with McGravey taking third on a match of cards.

Making his collegiate golf debut and finishing third on the Scarlet Raptors was junior Joe Midili (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township), who is a member of the Rutgers-Camden baseball team. Midili shot a 92. Rounding out the Raptors’ squad were senior Rob Burgess (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and sophomore Michael Nauss (Blackwood, NJ/Paul VI), who recorded rounds of 94 and 98, respectively.

The Scarlet Raptors completed their injury-riddled fall season competing in four invitationals and posting a 17-42 record. Of the golfers who competed in more than one match, Tomasic had the lowest average (81.8), followed by Nauss (87.4) and Burgess (90.0).

Tomasic, Nauss lead Scarlet Raptors
at Susquehanna Fall Golf Classic

DRUMS, Penn. (Sept. 29, 2006) – The Rutgers University-Camden golf team shot a 369 to finish last out of 16 teams at the Susquehanna University Fall Golf Classic here Friday. The invitational was held at the Par 72 Edgewood-in-the-Pines course.

Chris Merce of St. Peter’s was the individual medalist, shooting a three-under par 69 in the event which featured 84 golfers. Susquehanna University’s A squad was the team champion with a 294.

Rutgers-Camden senior Matt Tomasic (Berlin, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) and sophomore Michael Nauss (Blackwood, NJ/Paul VI) each shot an 87 to tie for 70th place. Senior Rob Burgess (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) shot a 97 and freshman Neal Patel (Princeton,
NJ/Framingham, MA)
shot a 98 for Rutgers-Camden.

Tomasic’s career-best 73 leads Rutgers-Camden
at Lebanon Valley College Fall Golf Tournament

LEBANON, Penn. (Sept. 25, 2006) – Rutgers University-Camden senior Matt Tomasic (Berlin, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) shot a career-best 73 to pace the Scarlet Raptors golf team to a 13th-place finish in the Lebanon Valley College Fall Golf Tournament here Monday at the Par 72 Lebanon Country Club.

Tomasic finished in a six-way tie for first place with his round of 73, which is tied for the fifth-best round in Rutgers-Camden golf history. He finished third in the tournament after a series of tie-breakers, which allowed Nick Van Hook of Delaware Valley College to win the individual title and Ursinus College’s Bo Maguire to finish second. Mike Wilhelm of host Lebanon Valley College and the Keystone College duo of Mike McCunkey and Steve Gonzales also shot a round of 73 and finished fourth through sixth, respectively, based on tie-breakers.

Tomasic’s outstanding round, which featured a 36 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine, was the best round at Rutgers-Camden since Chris Binder shot a program-record 71 at the Susquehanna Spring Invitational April 7, 2005. It also set a Scarlet Raptor personal best for Tomasic, whose previous top round was a 74 at the Moravian College Fall Invitational Sept. 22, 2005.

Keystone College won the team title with a 302. Rutgers-Camden carded a 327 to finish 13th in the 24-team field.

Senior Rob Burgess (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) shot a 79 to record the best score of his Rutgers-Camden career. He finished second on the Raptors, followed by sophomore Michael Nauss (Blackwood, NJ/Paul VI), who carded an 83. Freshman Neal Patel (Princeton, NJ/Framingham, MA) shot a 92 in his collegiate debut.

Tomasic, Nauss lead Raptors
at Moravian College Fall Invitational

BATH, PA (Sept. 21, 2006) – The Rutgers University-Camden golf team, ravaged by injuries and illness, sent three golfers to compete as individuals at the Moravian College Fall Invitational here Thursday at the Southmoore Golf Course.

Senior Matt Tomasic (Berlin, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) and sophomore Michael Nauss (Blackwood, NJ/Paul VI) each shot an 84, including a 39 on the back nine, to lead the Scarlet Raptors. Senior Rob Burgess (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) shot an 88.

Susquehanna University won the 19-team event with a 296 and had the individual champion in Mitch Mercer, who shot a 69. Mercer won the tiebreaker over Moravian’s Brian Bergstol, who also shot a 69, by carding a 32 on the back nine. Bergstol shot a 34 on the back nine tiebreaker.

The Scarlet Raptors return to action Monday, Sept. 25, when they compete in the Lebanon Valley College Fall Golf Tournament at the Lebanon Country Club in Lebanon, Penn.

Rutgers-Camden to hold 9th annual
Dr. Don Cardea Memorial Golf Tournament

CAMDEN – The Ninth Annual “Dr. Don” Cardea Memorial Golf Tournament will be held Friday, Sept. 29, at the Town & Country Golf Links in Woodstown, with a shotgun start beginning at 12:30 p.m.

The cost of $120 per person includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, dinner, gifts and prizes. Donations are welcome and hole sponsorships (at $100 for businesses) also are available.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Fox Chase Cancer Center.

The tournament is organized annually by Rutgers University-Camden Head Golf Coach Bob Cardea in honor of his father, Dr. Don Cardea, who passed away May 9, 1998 due to pancreatic cancer. Don Cardea was the Rutgers-Camden golf coach from 1983-87. He taught golf from 1963 until he passed away in 1998, founding the South Jersey Golf Schools in 1980. He was a professor in the recreation field, teaching at Rowan, The College of New Jersey and Temple over the years. He also served as the president of the New Jersey Recreation and Park Association in 1976-77.

in opener at Wesley Invitational

WYOMING, Delaware (Sept. 14, 2006) – Rutgers University-Camden senior Matt Tomasic (Berlin, NJ/St. Augustine Prep) shot a round of 79 as the Scarlet Raptors opened their golf season at the Wesley College Fall Invitational on a rainy Thursday at the Par 72 Wild Quail Country Club.

As a team, the Raptors finished with a 347 score to place 16th out of 18 squads. The event was won by host Wesley College’s A team, which shot a 297. Wesley’s Tyler Smith and Gettysburg’s Jim LeClair each shot an even-par 72, with Smith taking medalist honors on a tie-breaker.

The Scarlet Raptors’ ssophomore Michael Nauss (Blackwood, NJ/Paul VI) opened his fall season with a round of 85, while freshman Corey McDonough (Philadelphia, PA/Northeast Catholic) shot a 91 and senior Rob Burgess (Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) shot a 92.

The Scarlet Raptors return to action Sept. 21 in the Moravian College Fall Golf Invitational at the Southmoore Golf Course in Bath, Penn.
