Rachel Negro will earn her third varsity letter this year as a member of the Rutgers-Camden women’s crew program. Although she has junior eligibility in the sport, she will graduate this May with a dual degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology.
After an injury-plagued season during the 2006-07 scholastic year and into the fall, Negro will be back in action this spring.
After joining the Rutgers-Camden crew program during the fall of 2005, Negro competed in all six regattas during the spring 2006 season, rowing the 2 seat on the Lady Raptors’ Eight boat. That boat had its top time of 6:48 while finishing third in the final at the Johns Hopkins Invitational (April 15). In addition to racing in the Eight boat, Negro also rowed the 2 seat for the Club Four race at the Knecht Cup Regatta (April 8-9).
A transfer from Catholic University of America, Negro made her Lady Raptor debut during the fall 2005 season in the 6 seat for the Women’s Dad Vail Eight+ at the Navy Day Regatta (Oct. 15, 2005). She also sat the 6 seat for the Women’s Club Eights at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta (Oct. 29).
Negro earned two varsity letters in swimming and two in track at Paul VI High School, where she was listed in Who’s Who in High School Athletics. She was an honors student and a member of both the National Honor Society and the Italian Honor Society.
Negro is a Dean’s List student at Rutgers-Camden who has served as a volunteer with a local women’s shelter and as a counselor at the Pine Hill Scout Reservation summer camp.
A dual Criminal Justice and Sociology major at Rutgers-Camden who plans to attend graduate school, Rachel is the daughter of Anthony and Marie Negro of Audubon. |
