Michelle Sanchirico was named the MVP of the crew program during the 2006-07 scholastic year after she served as the Lady Raptors’ coxswain in all of their regattas during the fall and spring seasons. She served as the coxswain on the Rutgers-Camden Four boat for all 11 of the team’s spring races. She helped lead the Women’s Novice Four boat to a first-place finish in its heat and into the final at the Murphy Cup (March 24), a second-place finish in the Women’s Varsity Four heat and a berth in the finals at the Knecht Cup (April 14) and a first-place finish in the Women’s Frosh/Novice Four at the Atlantic Collegiate League Sprints (April 28). The Raptors capped their season by finishing second in their Women’s Varsity Heavyweight Four heat at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta May 11, earning their first berth ever in the Dad Vail semifinals (May 12).
Sanchirico continued her role as the coxswain last fall in the Lady Raptors’ two regattas, where she led Rutgers-Camden in the College Fours competition at both the Navy Day Regatta (Oct. 13) and the Head of the Charles Regatta (Oct. 20).
Sanchirico is a transfer from Rutgers-New Brunswick, where she spent a year with the Scarlet Knights’ crew program. During her first semester with the Raptors in the fall of 2005, she served as the crew team manager. She also was able to participate in one club race, serving as the coxswain for the Women’s Club Eights at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta (Oct. 29).
Sanchirico earned three crew letters and played scholastic soccer at Bishop Eustace Prep. She also earned the Theresa Braxton Scholarship, was an Honor Roll student and was a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish National Honor Society.
An English major and a Dean’s List student at Rutgers-Camden, Sanchirico plans to become an English teacher.
