2007 Summer Softball Camp
Camp form
CAMDEN - The Rutgers University-Camden Annual Summer Softball Camp, for youths ages 8-18, will be held in two sessions this summer at Rutgers-Camden Community Park.
A Skills Camp will be held July 16-18 from 9 a.m. to noon. A Pitchers and Catchers Camp will be held July 30-August 1 from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost of the camp is $100 per session or $175 for both sessions. The camp will be taught by Rutgers University-Camden Head Softball Coach Carl Taylor, coach of the 2007 New Jersey Athletic Conference champion Lady Raptors and the 2006 Division III national champions.
The Skills Camp will teach all of the basic fundamental skills that will help each individual success on the field. Areas such as hitting, fielding, pitching, catching and base running will be emphasized with drill sessions. In addition, each camper will learn a variety of different drills, many of which can be practiced in one’s own back yard.
The three-day Pitchers and Catchers Camp will center around the pitcher and catcher battery, where campers will be taught everything they need to know at their respective position in order to advance to higher levels in the game. Pitchers will focus primarily on proper throwing mechanics and will also learn the best ways to increase arm strength in order to gain both velocity and movement on pitchers. Catchers will concentrate on their receiving mechanics, as well as correct throwing and blocking techniques. When combined, the pitchers and catchers will work together during bullpen sessions, where areas such as pitch selection, philosophy and mental approach will be covered.
Registration is accepted on a first-come/first-served basis. For more information contact Taylor at 609-410-6977 or by email at coacht8@comcast.net
