Mark
McCloskey stepped into collegiate ball last
season by playing in 24 of the Scarlet Raptors’ 25
games. He dished off 22 assists, averaged 3.0
points and added 12 steals for Rutgers-Camden.
McCloskey
played a key role in the Raptors’ first
victory of the season, hitting a pair of foul
shots with 44 seconds remaining to lift Rutgers-Camden
over Curry College, 53-51, in the consolation
game of the Tom Masano/Sheraton Reading Tip-Off
Tournament Nov. 18. He finished with a career-high
10 points in that game, helping the Raptors
cap a furious comeback in which they scored
the final 12 points of the game. That win sparked
Rutgers-Camden to an early-season four-game
winning streak.
Later in the season, McCloskey chipped
in with eight points against the College of New Jersey (Jan. 17) and Kean University
(Feb. 17).
McCloskey had one of his finest games
against Rowan University (Feb. 7) when he tied his career high of two steals
and set a career high of three assists. His career high of three rebounds came
against Richard Stockton College (Jan. 31), when he also added five points.
McCloskey eight varsity letters while
playing basketball and soccer at Camden Catholic High School. During his scholastic
basketball career under Head Coach Jim Crawford, McCloskey was honored with the
Duke Murtin Award, given annually to the player who best exemplifies the Irish
program both on and off the court. McCloskey led Camden Catholic in assists as
a senior, helping the Irish complete a two-year run of 44-10. He also was an
Honor Roll and National Honor Society student at Camden Catholic, who earned
Second Honors.
