Tim Wasco appeared in eight games as a freshman infielder for the Scarlet Raptors last season, going 1-for-5 (.200) with three runs scored and collecting two assists.
Wasco scored his first collegiate run against Catholic University in the first game of an April 9 doubleheader, and it proved to be a big one. Inserted as a pinch-runner in the bottom of the 12th inning, Wasco scored the winning run on a single by Joe Midili as the Scarlet Raptors posted an 8-7 victory in a marathon contest which took 3:54 to play.
Wasco scored another run against Rutgers-Newark (Game Two, April 14), then collected his first hit and scored a run against Gwynedd-Mercy College (April 18), going 1-for-2 in that contest.
Wasco had an outstanding baseball career at Riverside High School for Head Coach Gary Herron, where he earned First and Second Team all-conference honors during his three years on the Rams’ varsity squad. He hit .357 in 52 career games, collecting 40 RBIs, 34 runs, 12 doubles and one home run. He had a .476 slugging percentage and a .481 on-base percentage for his career, aided by a senior season in which he hit .402 with nine doubles, 32 RBIs and a .524 on-base percentage.
During his senior season in 2006, Wasco earned First Team All-Group 1 honors at second base from the Courier-Postnewspaper, in addition to capturing All-Burlington County Second Team honors from the Burlington County Times. He also earned First Team All-Burlington County League Freedom Division recognition and capped his career being named to the Newark Star-Ledger’s All-State Group 1 Third Team.
Wasco also earned the Coaches Award and was an Honor Roll student as a Riverside High School senior.
Wasco’s superstition is to avoid stepping on the foul lines while going on and off the field.
An Education major who plans to be a high school teacher, Tim is the son of Rick and Cindy Wasco of Riverside.
