Scott Fruits appeared in 29 games for Rutgers-Camden as a right and left fielder last season, starting his last six contests. He hit .207 with seven runs and three RBIs, while posting a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 11 putouts in as many chances.
Fruits collected his first hit against Gwynedd-Mercy April 18, going 1-for-2 with a run scored. He notched his first RBI in his next game, when he made his first start and went 1-for-4 with a sacrifice fly against New Jersey City University in the opener of an April 21 doubleheader.
Fruits’ finest game came in the nightcap of a doubleheader against conference rival Kean University April 29. Against the Cougars, who went on to win the Division III national title, Fruits went 2-for-4, including a double, and scored one run.
A two-sport star at Paul VI High School, Fruits earned four varsity letters in baseball and three in football for the Eagles. He was a two-year baseball captain and also served one season as football captain. Fruits earned Second Team All Olympic Conference National Division as a senior outfielder, when he hit .431 with 24 runs, 22 RBIs, five doubles, one home run and eight stolen bases (in nine attempts). He had a .554 slugging percentage and a .532 on-base percentage during his senior season.
Academically, Fruits received Second Honors every year at Paul VI and was a member of the National Honor Society during his junior and senior years.
Fruits was a member of the Washington Township Senior Legion team during the summer of 2006, hitting .444 with 47 runs, 37 RBIs, five doubles, a triple, 20 walks and a .530 on-base percentage. He also went 15-for-16 in stolen base attempts.
Fruits enjoys fishing, skiing, snowboarding and playing Guitar Hero with his Rutgers-Camden teammate Michael Kondrath.
A Business major at Rutgers-Camden, Scott is the son of Mark and Carolyn Fruits of Turnersville.
