2008 RUTGERS-CAMDEN ATHLETE
Kyle Ballay

Name: Kyle Ballay
Hometown: Delran, NJ
Highschool: Delran
College Major: Psychology
Height: 5-11

Kyle Ballay appeared in 21 games as a freshman infielder for the Rutgers-Camden baseball team last season, starting 19 and hitting .228 with four RBIs and 11 runs scored.

Ballay, who saw action at both second and third base, made his first collegiate start against SUNY-Brockport (March 4), going 0-for-4 with one run scored, one putout and three assists. Five days later, he collected his first collegiate hits, going 2-for-2 and scoring two runs against Wabash College. His leadoff single in the bottom of the ninth inning sparked the winning rally as he scored the decisive run in a 5-4 victory.

Ballay continued his early-season offensive explosion with a 3-for-5 day in a doubleheader against Johns Hopkins (March 11), collecting hits in both ends of the twinbill. He also notched a career-high four assists and added two putouts in the opening game.

Ballay added a 2-for-4 performance with two runs and his first collegiate RBI the next day against McDaniel College. He had his final multi-hit game of the year April 24 against John Jay College of Criminal Justice, going 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk, one RBI and a career-high three runs scored.

Defensively, Ballay helped turn nine double plays during his freshman year, the third-highest total on the team. He turned three of them in one game against New Jersey City University April 21, the second game of a doubleheader, to come within one DP of the single-game program record.

Ballay was a multi-sport star at Delran High School, where he earned three varsity letters apiece in baseball and soccer. He earned All-Burlington County League Patriot Division First Team honors as a senior infielder in 2006. He played in the Carpenter Cup and added First Team All-South Jersey Group 2 honors from the Courier-Postnewspaper.

On the soccer field, he helped the Bears capture the 2003 Group 2 state co-championship and then win the 2004 Group 2 state title outright.

Ballay also was an Honor Roll student, a member of the Delran #1 Club and earned the Principal’s Award at Delran.

In addition to his collegiate and scholastic careers, Ballay has played the last two summers with the Delran franchise of the Rancocas Valley League. Last summer he was the recipient of the league’s fourth annual scholarship, which has been given since the 2004 season to help an RVL player further his college education.

A Biology major at Rutgers-Camden, Kyle is the son of Carol and Fred Ballay of Delran.
