An arm injury put a premature end to John Diamond’s first collegiate season at Rutgers-Camden, but not before the freshman right-hander showed a glimpse of his promising potential. In three games, Diamond worked 3-2/3 innings and allowed only two hits and one earned run to post a 2.45 ERA. He walked two and struck out three.
Diamond’s collegiate debut came against nationally-ranked Johns Hopkins University in the opening game of a March 11 doubleheader. He worked two innings, allowing two walks, two hit batsmen and one earned run. He struck out one. In his final two outings, March 15 against Springfield College (one inning) and March 16 against Roger Williams College (two-thirds of an inning), he hurled shutout ball with three strikeouts over 1-2/3 innings.
Diamond was the Pitcher of the Year and team MVP at Holy Cross High School in 2006, where he played for Coach Steve Paolini. A football and baseball letterman with the Lancers, Diamond also was an Honor Roll student every year at Holy Cross.
A Finance major at Rutgers-Camden, John is the son of Joe and Carole Diamond of Mt. Holly.
